Int’l Para Powerlifting: Nigeria finishes top with 42 medals

TEAM Nigeria Para Powerlifting won a total of 42 medals at the end of the Lagos 2019 World Para Powerlifting Invitational Competition held at the Lagos Oriental Hotels, Lekki - Epe Express Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Nigeria won 20 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze in the men and women weight categories in front of their home supporters.

Côte d’Ivoire won three bronze, Cameroon won three bronze while Ghana won two bronze medals. 

2018 Commonwealth gold medallist, Abdulazeez Ibrahim, Uhunoma Emwiobaiwi, Obioma Aligekwe, Wale Kadri and Mathias Monday won gold in the men’s 97kg, 107kg +107kg, 80kg and 88kg on Wednesday, the final day of the competition. 

In the women’s category, Bose Omolayo (79kg), Folashade Oluwafemiayo (86kg) and Loveline Obiji (+86kg) all won gold medals.


The Technical Director, Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation, Prince Are Feyisetan commended the country’s lifter for making the event successful.

He also hailed visiting countries like Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon for putting up good fights in some of the weight classes.
