Abokin bags gold at Int’l para powerlifting championship

2018 National Sports Festival silver medalist, Loveth Abokin won gold medal in the Women's 41kg category at the ongoing International Para Powerlifting Championships holding at Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lagos, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.


Abokin, who finished top ahead of former National Champion, Rukayat Ajiboye and Onyebueke Chinonso, lifted the 93kg on her second attempt before proceeding to lift the 102kg on her third attempt, but the gold medal due to her body weight (42.75kg).

The Edo State born athlete, who is making her first appearance for Nigeria at an International Championships, said that the road to success was a tough one.


She said, "I am extremely happy to win a gold medal in my first appearance in the colours of Nigeria at the International Championships. The preparations was stressful and worth it because the road to success is not easy.

"The arena of the championship was like a battlefield because I was facing the National Champion".

Abokin said her target is to represent Nigeria at upcoming International Championships.

“My target now is to train harder and not to miss any World Championships Nigeria will be attending. I started Powerlifting in 2011 but was not stable due to my studies,” said Abokin, who also won silver medal at the 2012 National Sports Festival in Lagos.

Loveth Abokin who is from Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State read Religious management and Cultural studies at Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma.
