NIGER Tornadoes captain and goalkeeper, Mustapha Aliko
says he hopes to keep another clean sheet when they take on Shooting Stars
Sports Club (3SC) in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday
18 billed for Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba in Ibadan on Sunday.
The goalkeeper who has kept six clean sheets this season,
believes that, for Ikon Allah to get at least a point in Ibadan, the team must first
ensure that he did not concede against the Oluyole Warriors.
In a telephone chat with SportingLife on Friday, Aliko
said, “We are in Ibadan right now and we thank Almighty Allah to the
journey mercies. We have come a long way and hopefully we will get a win
against Shooting Stars on Sunday.
It’s a very good one that I have six clean sheets this
season, but that is not important to me, what matter most is winning. Clean
sheet is good because it will encourage the players to work hard and make the
coaches to believe in you too that you can perform. But without the efforts of
the defenders and the input of the coaches, you can not keep a clean sheet. It
is a joint effort and it is a moral booster for the team.
“I always give my best to the team in every game and I
hope that I can keep another clean sheet again this time around because it is
the first step at ensuring that we get something from the match,” Aliko told
SportingLife.
The coach Abubakar Bala side are 4th on the table with 27
points, while Shooting Stars are 15th with 19 points from the same number of
matches played.
