IT was a harvest of tributes for veteran sports writer, Emma
Jemegah during the launching of his book, “Eyes on the Nigerian League”, the first
ever book on Nigeria football league, presented publicly at the Sports Writers
Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Secretariat, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on
Tuesday.
The book presentation was witnessed by stakeholders in
Nigeria football who described the book as the Dictionary of the Nigeria league
football.
Jemegah was commended for a good job which chronicled the
exploits of professional Football in Nigeria since its inception.
Speaking on the book, Jemegah said, “The book gives in-depth
information on how the league started, how professional football started, those
who mooted the idea, those who sat and decided to turn it professional. From the playing days of Segun Odegbami to
professional football in 1990.
“It is also an effort to educate the younger colleagues
who see nothing worthy of reporting in the Nigerian league due to the invasion
of social media that has popularized foreign leagues at the detriment of our own.
Mr. Ajide Olayioye who represented the Pillar of Sports |
“The younger colleagues, most of who were not born when
the league produced the bulk of players for the national teams, needed to be
guided on the path of history to enrich their knowledge.
