Aina becomes first Nigerian woman World Judge for karate

DELTA born coach, Rita Uroghome Aina has become the first Nigerian woman to become a World Judge for karate.


Rita passed her World Karate Federation Referees and Judges examination at the at the ongoing 2017 Karate 1 Premier League championship in Dubai.

In a statement of result dated March 30, 2017 and signed by WKF Referee Commission, Robert Hamara, with Candidate’s number 39, Rita has successfully gained a new provisional qualification Karate Judge B.

In 2016, the former national champion, Rita Aina was adjudged the best referee at the third edition of the Hajiya Zainab Saleh International Female Karate Championship held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

She was an undisputed champion in +60kg female weight category for years in Nigeria before getting married to the present Technical Director of the KFN and retired active competition.

Rita in 2011 became a West Africa champion before proceeding to participate at her last tournament which was the All Africa Games in Mozambique.


She became an Africa Referee at the AAG Congo Brazzaville, 2015 and was adjudged to be the best among the female Judges in that event.
