NNL: Mathias lone strike gives Remo victory over Osun United

Ogwuche Mathias strike in the 63rd minute of the game ensured Remo Stars picked all the three (3) points away from home at the Oshogbo Township Stadium in Osun State on Saturday.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the game between Osun United and Remo Stars marks the commencement of one of numerous fixtures played in the 2017/2018 Bet9ja Nigeria National League season (NNL).

The Sky Blue Stars dropped to the second tier of Nigeria Football after a disappointing outing in the topflight last season.

The victory against host, Osun United FC indicates that the Sky Blue Stars are in serious pursuit for a return to the Nigeria Professional Football League side.

Both sides started on a high after good exchange of passes between the players in the early minutes of the game and huge appreciation from the fans who were expecting to see beautiful football.

The home side threatened to force an early goal in the third minutes of the game through Victor Okeji but James Faith was well composed to deny the early attempt.

The Sky Blue Stars got their first sight on goal after numerous passes from the players left the home side flatfooted before Edoka Owoicho sights Ogweche Mathias but Ayo Ojo was wise enough to grab the ball at once.

Minutes later, Edozie Ewelike takes a wonderful free kick towards the opponent  final third but nobody in white shirt (Remo Stars) was close to converting the pass.

Ekene Azike comes close with a good display from the wings after David Fadairo's delicious pass finds him at the edge of the box but he mis-skilled and it goes for a throw in the visitor's favour.

The home side had an advantage with a free kick, a well planned free kick was taken after two players jumped over the ball for David Fadairo but Edoka Owoicho stood tall with a nice goal line clearance to maintain the scoreline.

In the closing minutes of first half, Olatunji  Dare tries his luck from distance but his effort flies high and way off target for the home side.

Three minutes after the commencement of the second half, Edozie Ewelike's long throw causes problem inside Osun United box, their defenders couldn't handle and Mathias was quick to take a shot but it goes wide.

Dauda Shefiu's long range pass connects Sunday Williams, he tries to find his way pass his marker but proved abortive and Ayo Ojo saves.

James Faith was also massive and calm for the Sky Blue Stars, he denied couple of chances from Victor Okeji and Dare Fadairo from getting a goal pass him.

Ogwuche Mathias put the Sky Blue Stars ahead after Solomon John heads to him, he fought hard to score after overcoming his markers to convert brilliantly.

Sunday Williams came close to extending the lead for the visitors but he couldn't dribble pass his marker and Ayo Ojo easily pick the loose ball.

From then, the home side started mounting pressure on the Sky Blue Stars but their attempts weren't yielding profits until David Fadairo was gifted a chance to level up but couldn't get the final touch and James Faith picks easily.

Another close chance for Osun United FC through Mamud Akorede after forcing his way pass our defenders but his attempt meets the side net.

The victory against the Omoluabi  giants ensured that the Sky Blue Stars got maximum points away from home in the first game of Group B2 in the Bet9ja Nigeria National League (NNL) and next for Remo Stars FC is another away game against Stationery Stars in Match Day Two (2) of the second tier league.
