Iguodala, Musa win Sunfit National Squash tourney

CLINTON Iguodala of House Water Academy, Lagos State and Aminat Musa of Kwara State emerged winners of the maiden edition of the of the Sunfit Under-13 & Under-16 National Junior Squash tournament held at the Sunfit Fitness and Spar in Amuwo Odofin Estate, FESTAC in Lagos State.


Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the tournament organised by Ex-Squash Pros and sponsored by Sunfit Fitness, Spar and Accommodation, saw Iguodala defeated Emmanuel Sunday from Kaduna 3-1 (12-10, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7) in the final of the Under-16 Boys category, with Fortune La’ah from Kaduna and Ibrahim Balogun from Kwara placing 3rd.

Aminat Musa beat Rukayat Oladunmoye 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-8) in the Under-16 Girl’s final, while Ondo State duo of Peace Olusoji and Jaiyeola Zainab finished 3rd.


In the Under-13 Boys category, Daniel Nzei from Akwa Ibom showed that age does not count by defeating his elder brother, Wisdom Nzei 3-2 (12-10, 11-6, 12-14, 5-11, 11-7) in a keenly contested game. Kwara State duo of Suhaib Giwa and Muhammed Soliu finished in 3rd position.


Jovitah La’ah from Kaduna beat Mistura Durosinlorun from Kwara 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-4) in the final of the Under-13 Girls category. Joyce Gibson from Akwa Ibom and Chidinma Orji from Abia came 3rd.


Winners and runners up were presented with sports equipment such as squash rackets, squash bags, balls, T shirts etc.

Five-year old Kadijat Durosinlorun and seven-year old David Opiye got gift items as the youngest Under-13 girl and boy of the tourney.


Daniel Egberipou and Daniella Okechukwu were adjudged the best behaved male and female player.


Speaking at the final, President of the Nigeria Squash Federation, Boye Oyerinde appeal for more sponsorship from the corporate organizations.

“I want to commend Sunfit for sponsoring this junior championship and we hope it is going to be an annual event. I also use this medium to appeal to corporate bodies and individuals to come to our aid in our developmental programs so that we can continue to engage our youths,” said Oyerinde, who was ably represented by Alh Yinka Durosinlorun.
