SUNSHINE Stars gaffer, Gbenga Ogunbote has revealed that Oluwatimileyin Abiodun Ogunniyi popularly known as Omojesu is presently not in his team, fueling speculations that the striker has left the country for greener pastures abroad.
The midfielder was rumored to have joined Latvian side, Spartaks Jurmala for a fee of €10,000 few days after helping Owena Waves secure their first win of the league season, curling in a perfect free-kick from the edge of the area against Ifeanyi Ubah.
Even though the Akure based outfit has denied such move, the player was not available for selection as the team lost 1-0 to MFM in the NPFL matchday three match held at the Agege Stadium in Lagos on Sunday.
Asked about the true situation of the player after the encounter, Ogunbote said, “Honestly I was employed to coach a team. So if the player is available, I am sure the management would have presented him to me for training. And since I’ve not seen him and the team management is yet to make a formal statement about the issue, for now, Omojesu is not in my camp,” Ogunbote told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
Ogunbote however rues the inability of his team to convert their chances despite having over 10 set pieces in vital areas of the home side.
“This is still a team in the making and we cannot get everything overnight. Honestly it was a painful one for me too as a coach, when you have about 10 set pieces and we couldn’t make use of any of it. It means we are not a perfect team yet.
“The game has been won and lost and you see sometimes you pay dearly for carelessness. All we need to do now is to go home with the positives.
“Unfortunately this is not a game we should have lost. We still have 35 more games to play, we will go back home and try to be better next time,” the former Enyimba, Rangers and 3SC handler told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
