ONE of Nigeria's flag bearers in this year's CAF Champions League, Plateau United Football Club of Jos have gone into closed camp ahead of the preliminary round first leg tie against Simba of Tanzania slated for the Jos international Stadium.The team went into camp shortly after going down two-one to Nasarawa United of Lafia in a pre-season friendly at the Jos international Stadium.
According to the Media Officer of the club, Albert Dakup, management took the decision to camp the players early in order to avoid any distractions ahead of the match.
"Management of the club is taking the CAF Champions League seriously that is why we are moving the players into camp in order to ensure maximum concentration, Dakup told SportingLife.The team which arrived in Jos after participating in the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Pre-season Tournament in Aba last Sunday are in high spirits despite losing to fellow CAF Champions League campaigners, Enyimba International of Aba in the semi finals of the competition.
Head coach of the team, Abdu Maikaba had earlier expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team in the tournament and assured a convincing result against Simba FC on Sunday.
"I already have the team that will face the Tanzanians after returning from the Aba Pre-season Tournament. I am very optimistic of a wide margin victory in the match,” he said.
This is the second in four years that Plateau United will be featuring in the CAF Champions League after doing so in 2018.
