Joe Aribo: I’ll be back sooner than you think

.Nigerian suffers injury setback

SUPER Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has insisted that he will be back in action for his Scotish Premiership side Rangers “sooner than you think”.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard revealed earlier on Friday the Super Eagles midfielder could face a further six weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

Aribo has missed the Ibrox side's last two fixtures and the manager confirmed fears the knock was worse than first anticipated - although insisted the player will not require surgery.

The Nigeria international is still set to miss several important matches but has hinted at a confidence he'll return ahead of schedule.

"Thanks for all the love and support. I’ll be back and better sooner than you think," the 24-year-old wrote on his Twitter handle.

In the meantime, however, Gerrard admits the former Charlton star's absence remains a "big blow" for Rangers.

He said: "Joe Aribo has had a setback with an ankle strain and will be missing for four to six weeks.

"It’s a big blow with Joe. He is a player we rate rightly, it is actually good news as it was a situation that it could have required surgery and but he doesn’t and we hope he can be back in four weeks. It will be a blow however as he is a major talent.

"Allan McGregor will have a scan on his knee over the weekend and Jordan Jones has returned with a small quad issue.

"Cedric Itten, Borna Barisic and Jermain Defoe are all back in full training."
