SUPER Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has said that he is delighted to begin another chapter in his career after joining English Championship side Watford from Italian side Udinese.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the 27-year-old centre-half, who has 42 caps and represented Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup, has signed a five-year contract with the Hornets and becomes the latest new addition to Vladimir Ivić’s squad. He will wear squad number 5.

The Nigeria international took to his social media account to express his feelings on Tuesday.

“New chapter @WatfordFC!Happy to be here and ready to get started,” he tweeted.

Confirming the sale of the player, Udinese express their gratitude to the Nigerian defender for his professionalism during his stay with the club.

“Udinese Calcio announces the permanent sale of William Troost-Ekong to Watford FC.The defender leaves the club after wearing the black and white shirt on 66 occasions.

“William best wishes for the new experience and a heartfelt thanks from the Club for the professionalism and attachment to the Bianconeri colors always shown on the pitch,” Udinese wrote on their website.

Troost-Ekong has spent the past two years in Italy with Udinese, playing 66 times for the Serie A side since his arrival from Turkish Süper Lig outfit Bursaspor in 2018.

Born in the Netherlands, he began his senior career in the Eredivisie with Groningen and Dordrecht before spells in Belgium and Norway, with Gent and Haugesund respectively.

A former Netherlands youth international, Troost-Ekong made his senior international debut for Nigeria in 2015 and has since proven himself to be an important part of the Super Eagles’ defence, playing three times at the World Cup in Russia and making six appearances at last year’s African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
