NAPOLI have announced that all the COVID-19 tests on their players including Nigeria international Victor Osimhen and staff have come back negative after 14 cases at their recent opponents Genoa.
Genoa had two players test positive – Mattia Perin and Lasse Schone – before Sunday’s 6-0 defeat against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo.
Tests performed on Monday morning found another 12 positive cases between squad and staff, reportedly including another eight or nine players.
They are now in quarantine and it’s very likely this weekend’s Serie A match between Genoa and Torino will be postponed.
It is reported, but has not yet been confirmed, that six of the players who tested positive on Monday had played against Napoli on Sunday.
Napoli have reportedly asked Genoa for a list of the players that tested positive for Covid-19, so that they can be extra careful with players who they came into contact with, most especially Osimhen, who came face-to-face with Andrea Masiello.
The Super Eagles forward received a yellow card in the 90th minute after he was involved in a scuffle with Genoa’s Mattia Destro and Masiello as the duo were also cautioned.
All the players and staff of Napoli underwent Covid 19 test on Tuesday and the results came out negative.
There will be another round of swabs tomorrow, as the Coronavirus has a long incubation period, and so more tests will be required before deciding if their game against Juventus this weekend can go ahead as planned.
