Onyekuru bids farewell to Galatasaray

By Akeem Lawal
SUPER Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has said an emotional goodbye to Galatasaray after ending his second loan spell with the Turkish club to return to Ligue 1 giants AC Monaco.

The Nigeria international’s previous six-month loan deal with Galatasaray expired on June 30 and the French side turned down an offer from the Turkish Super Lig champions to extend his loan deal until the end of the season.

In a farewell message posted on his Twitter account on Saturday, the 23-year-old expressed his gratitude to Galatasaray for their love and support during his second spell.

“I can’t thank @GalatasaraySK enough for the love during my second spell at the club. You are forever in my heart, until we meet again ...Cimbom,” he said.

Onyekuru scored 1 goal and made 3 assists in 12 appearances for Galatasaray in the 2019-2020 season.

The Nigerian was also part of Galatasaray in the 2019-2018 season to help the Lions to win the league title and Turkish Cup.

He will be working under Monaco’s new coach Robert Moreno. Source says the former Spain coach rates the 23-year-old Onyekuru highly and the club is believed to have reserved the no.7 shirt for the Nigerian.
