ANTHONY Omaka has stressed that Sunshine Stars is in no
pressure to win the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament ahead of their final game
against Kwara United at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
The Owena Waves qualified for a second final of the
pre-season tourney after they edged South-West derby rival, Remo Stars 3-2 on
penalties after their semi-final full time scores ended 1-1.
Omaka took home the Vomoz Mobile Match of the Match award
following his brilliance on the pitch, scoring Sunshine Stars only goal and
clearing from the goal line what should have been Remo Stars first goal.
“I'm delighted, as we're in the final of the Gold Cup
Tourney. It was not an easy game against Remo Stars as we both deserve to play
against Kwara United on Saturday but unfortunately only one team can qualify.
“We played as a team, kept our cool. Rather sad we ended
the game with a man less.
“Going into Saturday's final, our morale is high as it’s
a trophy we want to win. However we’re not under pressure to win it.
Asked about life under new Sunshine Stars coach, Kabiru
Dogo, the midfielder said: “It’s the best thing that happened to the club as he
has quality to offer to the team.
“Just less than two weeks with us, I am beginning to
enjoy my football as Coach Dogo is a teacher. He has changed the club’s
football philosophy.
“Last season our play was poor as we played what I termed
as rugby football. No coordination as we played ugly just to get the three points.
“Now we do more of passing, attacking and defending as a
team and above all we try to entertain our fans. So there's a lot to learn from
him looking at his pedigree and track record with other clubs.”
Omaka thanked Vomoz Mobile for the Man of the Match award
he won, “I want to thank them for instituting this award as its reward for my
hard work. It will go a long way to bringing the best from me.”
