SUNSHINE Stars captain Abe Sunday has boasted that the
Owena Waves are ready to take on Remo Stars in the semifinals of the ongoing
Gold Cup tournament on Thursday at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
The Akure based side defeated Cynosure FC 1-0 courtesy of
Kehinde Adedipe’s 65th minute strike to top the Group B table on 10 points.
In a chat with Sportsbiz7247.blogspot.com after the
encounter, Abe said, “First and foremost, I give God the glory for the victory.
We have not lost any match since the beginning of the tournament. I also thank
my colleagues and the coaching crew for working hard together to get this
result.
“Cynosure is a good team with good players. My father
used to say that, “a tank full of water doesn’t make noise and it is those that
doesn’t have water that makes noise.” We are professionals and have a lot of
experience players and coaches. We have prepared well for them and you can see
that with the way we played today.
“We are not scared of Remo Stars because this is our career, this is our
profession, so we have to work hard and correct our mistakes and do better in
the next game.
While assuring the new technical adviser, Suleiman Dogo
of players’ loyalty, Abe commended the organizers of the Gold Cup tournament
for the initiative.
“Coach Dogo is a good coach. I have known him for a long
time, I have played against his team and know what he can offer. On behalf of
my colleagues, we are ready to cooperate with him to make sure we get good
results.
“I want to commend the organizers for putting up this
kind of preseason tournament. It is helping us to prepare ahead of the new
season. They should continue with such initiative,” Abe said.
