HEAD Coach, Bayelsa State wrestling team, Victor Kodei
has assured that the best wrestlers will be selected to represent the state at
the forthcoming Governor Wike National Wrestling Challenge Cup which holds at
the Rivers State Indoor Sports Complex, Port Harcourt the Rivers capital city
from November 23 to 30, 2017.
The competition sponsored by the Governor of Rivers
State, Neysom Wike is a prelude to the 2018 Cadet, Junior and Senior African
Wrestling Championships that will hold in Port Harcourt, next year.
In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com, Kodei who is also the head
coach of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation said Team Bayelsa’s target is to
dominate the championship in every weight categories.
“Our preparation is in top gear for the championship and
we will present a very strong team. We have been dominating major national
championships in the country for a very long time and the Wike Wrestling
Champions Cup won’t be an exception. We will be competing in Cadet, Junior and
senior and woman wrestling.
“Like we have always done in the past, newly discovered
talents will be given the opportunities to represent the state, while old
wrestlers including national, African and commonwealth will also be on parade
and are expected to do the state proud,” the former National, African and
Commonwealth Wrestling champion told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
A total of 90 weight classes with wrestlers competing for
honours in all three styles (Greco-Roman, Female Wrestling and Men’s Freestyle)
in the Cadet, Junior and Senior with 10 new weight categories each for all the
styles.
