NIGERIA female wrestler, Mercy Genesis has declared her
readiness to challenge for honours in her new weight class of 50kg at the
Governor Wike National Wrestling Challenge Cup which holds at the Rivers State
Indoor Sports Complex, Port Harcourt, from November 23
to 30, 2017.
Genesis, who began her wrestling career in 2012 has gone
to win numerous medals in the 48kg weight class including gold medals at 2015
All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, 2017 Senior African Wrestling Championship
in Morocco, Africa Oceania Olympic qualifiers in Algeria and silver medal at
the 2016 African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt.
In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com, the University
of Port Harcourt 300 level Human Kinetic and Health Education student said she
is preparing for the championship while writing her examination.
“I’m writing my 300 level exams now and will finish on
Friday. It is true that I will be competing in a new weight class at the
Governor Wike Championship and I am ready to take up the challenge.
“Odun Adekuoroye competed in the weight class before she
moved to her new weight. Bose Samuel took over the category and she is the
champion now. I have all the experience to challenge her in this category even
though it will not be an easy task. I will try my best in this new weight
category,” Genesis told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
