THE Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on Monday paid tribute to late former Super Eagles defender, Olubayo Adefemi who died five years ago.
The former Nigeria international defender died on the 18th of April 2011 after being involved in a car accident in Greece.
Adefemi who playing for Skoda Xanthi at that time reportedly lost control of his car while on his way to finalise wedding plans. The then 25-year-old was driving from Xanthi to Salonika in the Kavala region of northern Greece.
The federation posted joined millions of football fans in the country to remember the late player who contributed immensely to Nigeria's success at the 1996 Olympics.
"Till memory fades & life departs,you live forever in our hearts Olubayo Adefemi ( Aug.13, 85- Apr.18,2011) #RipFemi" the federation said on its official Twitter handle @thenff, with a picture of him against Angel Di Maria during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in China.
Adefemi represented his country at the 2008 Olympic Games, playing all the games and scoring a goal in a semifinal match against Belgium.
He was a member of the Nigerian Under 20 Team that came second behind a Lionel Messi-led Argentina Team at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands. Adefemi played 5 out of the six matches Nigeria played, scoring 1 goal during play against Morocco in the semi-final.
Adefemi made his Senior National Team debut against Ireland on 29 May 2009. Adefemi played his second senior game against France in a game that Nigeria won.
The former Rapid Bucharest made 24 appearances for Xanthi with two goals to his name.
