GAMBIA, Namibia and Morocco have arrived Nigeria for the
final round of the Women’s Beach Volleyball Olympic qualifier scheduled to hold
from April 13 to 18 in Abuja.
The qualifiers will be contested by 12 teams for the
continental slots at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Secretary of the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission,
Adisa Adeniyi informed SportingLife that more countries are expected today (Tuesday)
being the arrival day. He said all arrangements have been put in place to
ensure that Nigeria host a successful competition.
“Three countries Gambia, Namibia and Morocco are already
in the country for the qualifier. The remaining eight countries are expected
between this night and Tuesday, being the arrival day for the competition,” he
told SportingLife on Monday.
“The commission with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation
(NVBF) and supports from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports have ensured
that the country meet with the hosting standard set by FIVB,” Adisa said.
All Africa Games gold medalist duo of Precilia Agera and
Isabella Laju together with Tochukwu Nnoruga and Francisca Ikedia will
represent the country at the qualifier and Adisa believes the players are
poised to qualify and fly the nation’s flag at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“There is optimism in the camp because we believe the
players can do the country proud. They had the best of preparations. The team
even went on a two weeks training tour in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
“The players are in high spirit and know what is at
stake. We are hosting to win the competition.
“We appreciate the ministry for supporting the team in
cash and kind and we believe they will do more when the event starts,” he said.
