SUPER Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has expressed sadness following Leicester City's failure to secure a Champions League slot at the just concluded 2020-21 Premier League season.
The Nigeria international, together with his compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho featured prominently in Leicester’s 4-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, but their contribution ultimately ended in disappointment on the last day of the season.
While admitting that Leicester City did not achieve their goal, Ndidi, who appreciated the support from the 8,000 fans present at the King Power Stadium, said the club could take consolation from the fact that they also made history.
“Unfortunately we didn’t hit our target but we will come back stronger next season. Oh yeah we made history.
“Thank you all for your support throughout the season, it was amazing seeing most of you at the stadium,” the 24-year-old posted on his Twitter account on Monday.
The Foxes were on course to add a top-four finish in the Premier League to their historic FA Cup success as they led Tottenham 2-1 with 14 minutes to go, with Jamie Vardy scoring two penalties.
But a Kasper Schmeichel own goal and two Gareth Bale goals off the bench saw Spurs run out 4-2 winners and condemn Leicester to a second successive fifth-placed finish. While Chelsea, who were beaten at Villa, finished ahead of them in the table with Liverpool in third after they beat Crystal Palace.
