SIX clubs will participate in the 1st Inter-Barracks Clubs Volleyball Championship which begins on Thursday at the Ribadu Cantonment Sports Complex, Kaduna, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

The competition organized by the Kaduna Volleyball Association in conjunction with Ex-Ribadu Cantonment Old Boys and Girls Association is meant for volleyball clubs in Kaduna State.

The teams are: Old Barracks, NAF Base, Jaji Cantonment, Dalet Barracks (Kawo), Comila Barracks (44 NARHK) and Kalapanzin Barracks (Kakuri).

The Technical Director of the competition, Elishama Elam informed Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com that the competition will begin on Wednesday with a technical meeting, while matches will start on Thursday.

“This competition is being put together to unit the players within the barracks. It is a unity championship within the military cantonment in Kaduna.

“The President of the Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod is also brought up in the cantonment and this is like giving back to the society where you were brought up.

“The fixtures will be drawn on Wednesday after our technical meeting. The competition will commence proper on Thursday,” Elam, who is also the Head Coach of both COAS Spikers (Nigerian Army Volleyball Team) and the Female National Under 18 team told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.

NVB President, Engr. Musa Nimrod, who said that the competition will be held under strict COVID-19 protocols, urged well meaning Nigerians to remember where they are coming from and help develop sports from the grassroots.

“Let us go back to our base where we started our sporting life. Think where you started. Go back and develop it. Government can not do it alone. Our little effort at the grassroots will go a long way,” Nimrod noted.
