Okagbare honoured to enter Guinness Book of Records

NIGERIA queen of the track, Blessing Okagbare is in cloud nine after being honoured by the Guinness Book of Records for “Most Appearances in the IAAF Diamond League Meetings”, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

 

The Commonwealth gold medalist achieved the feat after participating in a record 67 times in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump events at the Diamond League between 3rd July 2010 and 31st August, 2018.


 

Okagbare, who has already secured her place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games revealed this on her Twitter account on Wednesday.

 

“A dream made reality through God's grace and determination.

“Look what finally came in the mail...

“Thanks to @GWR book of world records. I am indeed honored, proud and grateful,” the 2018 Beinjin Olympic silver medalist tweeted along side a picture of her certificate.

 

On the certificate the World Record body wrote: “The most appearance in diamond league meetings by an athlete is 67 and was achieved by Blessing Okagbare (Nigeria) between 30th July 2010 to 31st August 2018.”

 

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) have congratulated Okagbare on the achievement, wishing the athlete more success.

“Congratulations to our Queen of track Blessing Okagbare @mountain214 who is now the current Guinness World Record holder for most appearances in Diamond League Meetings. We wish her more wins both on and off the track,” the country’s athletics ruling body said via its official Twitter handle.

 

Some of the 100m events Okagbare won during the years under review includes London Athletics Grand Prix (2012, 2013), Herculis Meet in Monaco (2012), Shanghai Golden Grand Prix (2015). In the 200m, she won at the British Grand Prix (2013), Shanghai Golden Grand Prix (2014) and Meeting Areva, France (2014).

 

She also won in the Long Jump event at the Athletissima Meet in Lausanne, Switzerland (2013), Herculis Meet in Monaco (2013) and Shanghai Golden Grand Prix (2014).

 

Okagbare has also appeared and won the prestigious Diamond League in Rabat, Morocco (2019).
