HEARTLAND coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu is happy to have earned revenge against Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM FC) during the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 8 encounter held at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.
Ilechukwu returned to the soccer temple to defeat his former employers 2-1, to hand the Olukoya Boys their first home defeat of the season, just as the Naze Millionaires secured their first away point this season.
The Owerri-based club were stunned at home in Okigwe 1-0 by MFM in the opening game of the 2019/20 domestic campaign and Ilechukwu is delighted to take their pound of flesh on the Olukoya Boys this time around in Lagos.
“This is a great victory. First of all we thank God because it is not easy. As it is now, I am not happy with the quality of the game but the most important thing is the three points because we need to fight and come out of the relegation zone. So I give it to my boys because MFM have a fantastic team.
“MFM won last season in my home. They rejoiced when they went home. Today, I’m rejoicing back to Owerri. It’s a revenge. If I did an interview before this game, I know they will make it difficult. But I know in my mind that I’m coming for revenge. We lost last season and we are winning today, so it’s 1-1,” Ilechukwu told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
Speaking on how he was to motivate the players against MFM in spite of the club’s financial difficulties, Ilechukwu said, “Motivation is part of football. I told them, if we lost this game or even pick one point, four players must go. I must demote four players if they lose this game. For the past three games now, while leading with a goal or two, we end up losing in the dying minute. It is a sign of unseriousness on the side of the players and I told them this game, against MFM, a good side, we must win. At the end of the day we thank God we won the game,” Ilechukwu told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
