Kwara United vs Lobi Stars: Aiyenugba targets fifth clean sheet

By Akeem Lawal

KWARA United experienced goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba will be hoping to secure another clean sheet and ensure victory for his team when they host Lobi Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 8 encounter at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin on Wednesday.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Aiyenugba, who joined the Harmony Boys at the start of the season after playing in Europe for 13 years, recorded his fourth clean-sheet while helping the team secure a goalless draw against MFM in a NPFL matchday 7 encounter in Lagos.

In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com, the former Super Eagles shot stopper said he will continue to give his best to the team as the season progresses.

“It was a good match, not by my power or might, it’s just by God’s grace and I give glory to Him. In every game, I know what it takes to have a good game as a goalkeeper and as an experienced keeper I tried not to disappoint. I just give God the glory for making me calm in the game.”

The two-time CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba said he will continue to use his experience to guide the young players in the team.

“We talk a lot and I try to put professionalism into them. I started in the Nigeria league and everybody is counting on me. I give it back to them, talk to every player and give them advice. Don’t give up, continue to do you best and the sky will be your limit.”

The Coach Abdullahi Biffo side had the opportunity to wrap up the game on many occasions but failed to convert their chances and the former Bnei Yehuda, Hapoel Ashkelon and Hapoel Iksal goalkeeper is not losing sleep over the missed opportunities.

“I feel bad but this is football. We’ll just keep encouraging each other and maybe by next game, goals will come,” he said.

Despite dominating the larger part of the game, Kwara United would have gotten themselves to blame had MFM converted the last minute opportunity, but Aiyenugba made a good save to ensure his team went home with a point.

“We have been in this kind of situation and they have scored me like that before. So as a goalkeeper you keep learning and I keep learning, I just need to be calm and with the support from God, you’ll continue to do better,” Aiyenugba told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
