FAILURE of former Nasarawa United star and joint NPFL top scorer, Ibrahim Sunusi to secure a work permit in England denied him move to English Championship side, Watford, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
Sunusi, who was recently on trials at Watford, was tipped to feature in the English Championship this season after they were relegated from the Premier League, but the deal never materialized. He was even seen with the Nigerian International and Manchester United striker, Odion Ighalo in England during his voyage at Watford.
The 18-year-old however penned a three-year deal for an
undisclosed fee with Major League Soccer outfit Montreal Impact from 36 Lion FC
– a deal which will keep him at Saputo Stadium until 2023, with an optional
year in 2024.
In a tribute to the center forward, the Proprietor of 36
Lions FC of Lagos, Haji Liameed Gafar revealed that the striker who was on high
demand from clubs in Europe would have signed for Watford, but the deal
couldn’t go down due to work permit.
“We announce the transfer of our striker, Sunusi Ibrahim
to MLS side Montreal Impact. It’s been a
bit tedious and extra challenging but Sunusi is a Warrior! A true Lion! His
developmental process in Watford was phenomenal. He would have signed for
Watford but for Work Permit.
“Several European clubs came calling but we chose
Montreal Impact because of Sunusi’s bullish style of play. He has a unique way
of running at defenders and getting under their skins. Sunusi is a Gladiator
and MLS will suit him perfectly as we are sure he will be top among his peers
drafted from various Universities in America and Canada.
“We appreciate Nasarawa United FC and Sunusi’s parents
for their unflinching trust in 36 Lion Football Club.
“Kudos also to Ladi Salami- the UK based FIFA agent, and
his partners. Our profound gratitude also goes to Adam Adams Jesse Odoba-Yacham
Jezil who is the pen behind most of Sunusi’s stories. Good luck Sunusi. May God
bless you son,” he said.
