LEICESTER City manager
Brendan Rodgers has said that Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi made a
miraculous recovery and could be fit to make his comeback in Wednesday’s Premier
League game against West Ham United at King Power Stadium.
The Nigeria international
has missed the last three games in all competitions after undergoing surgery on
a problem with his knee. The original prognosis was a three to four week
recovery period.
However, Ndidi
rehabilitation has gone quicker than expected, with the 23-year-old returning
to training last week, and Rodgers has revealed that he could be in contention
to return against the Hammers.
In the three games that
Ndidi has missed Leicester have failed to win one, drawing 0-0 in the Carabao
Cup semi-final first leg against Aston Villa before losing 2-1 to both
Southampton and Burnley.
"There’s a great chance
he could be in the squad tomorrow. He’s made a miraculous recovery. It’s been
11 days,” Rodgers told the media on Tuesday.
"It’s a great testament
to him and the medical team. We didn’t want to rush him, but over the last few
days, he’s been fantastic. He’s had tests and come through them well.
"It’s a real colossal
player for us. He covers a lot of space for our attacking players. There aren’t
many better than him. It’s a huge boost for us."
When asked about Ndidi’s
qualities, Rodgers described him as ‘phenomenal’, and knows it will be a ‘huge
boost’ for his side this week.
“He’s a real colossal player
for us,” he added. “He allows to defend and to defend forward. He covers a lot
of space for our attacking players and there’s not too many players better than
him who do that job.
“He’s a phenomenal player.
To have him back early is a huge boost for us. He has been a miss, no doubt,”
Rogers said.
