A TOTAL of 4 teams have
punched their tickets to the Conference phase of the Total/NBBF Division 2 League
from the South West and North Central zones.
After 5 days of intense
basketball action amongst 7 teams that made it to the zonal finals in the South
West, Ondo Kings from Akure and Young Royals of Abeokuta qualified to represent
the zone in the Atlantic Division.
Despite losing the final
game to Young Royal of Abeokuta by 29 points to 42, getting to the final was
all that was needed for Ondo Kings to confirm their first ever status in the
conference final.
From the North Central,
Golden Touch of Nasarawa booked their ticket in golden fashion to confirm a
place in the Savannah conference of the Total/NBBF Division 2.
Nigerian Prisons of Niger bounced
back from their match day one defeat in style as they took no prisoner to also
qualify from Markurdi centre.
Action will shift to the
South South (Calabar) and South East (Umuahia) zones between the 17th and 23rd
of August where 4 teams are also expected to emerge.
The Total/NBBF Division 2
League coordinator, Andrew Isokpehi expressed satisfaction with the impressive
turnout of teams which culminated in a keenly contested championship.
“To have 10 out of 14 teams
that qualified from the North Central and 7 teams from the 12 expected in the
South West is a good development for the league."
“The turnout has been
impressive while the standard of play for me is decent at this level.”
The retired coach said he is
eager to see what teams in the South South and South East zones will offer with
action starting on Friday.
