Super Eagles call-up excites Nwakali

By Akeem Lawal
FORMER U-17 Cup-winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali is in cloud nine after making the list of 24 invited players for the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifiers away to Seychelles on September 7 in Victoria.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the highly-rated Arsenal youngster, who is on a season-long loan at FC Porto B, impressed Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr in Nigeria XI friendly loss against Spanish club Atletico Madrid in Uyo in May, scoring from 35 yards out to leave goalkeeper Oblak stranded in goal.

The Golden Ball award winner at the 2015 U-17 World Cup took to his Instagram page immediately after the list of players was officially announced to express his delight.

“Thank God for my first super eagles call up #nationalduty #supereagles #workinginfavor,” the 20 year old said via @nwakali25 on Friday.

Both teams lost their opening games – Nigeria lost 2-0 at home to South Africa, while Seychelles were battered 5-1 by hosts Libya.

The Super Eagles, who are third in Group E after matchday one, are expected to open camp in Seychelles on September 3, five days before the fixture.
