SUPER Eagles midfielder, Joel
Obi has officially left Torino and put pen to paper on three-year contract with
another Italian side, Chievo Verona.
The Nigeria international midfielder also has an option to add a fourth year to the deal at the Stadio Bentegodi.
His current contract with
Toro was due to expire at the end of this season and the former Inter Milan
midfielder underwent a medical on Saturday.
While announcing the deal
via the the club’s official Twitter handle, The Yellow and Blues said, “Its
Official: Joel Obi is from the @ACChievoVerona! arrives outright from
@TorinoFC_1906. The contract expiring on 30/06/2021 with option to 2022!
Welcome to US Joel!”.
Obi, who was part of
Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but was an unused
substitute in all of three Super Eagles games at the tournament, has chosen to
wear shirt Number 22 for Chievo this season.
“Joel is here 👇 👕
and has already tried the new gialloblù jersey! The @SerieA 2018/2019 will play
with his number, 22,” Chievo said while revealing the player's jersey number.
The 27-year-old spent
practically his entire career in Italy, moving to the Inter youth academy in
2005. He had a loan spell at Parma before joining Torino in 2015.
