Over 100 kid boxers took part in the 6th Child Dignity
Foundation annual boxing event tagged 'Potential 2018 Boxing Carnival', held at
the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym, National Stadium, Lagos, last weekend.
Sponsored by Child Dignity Foundation, a brain child of Amaka Awogu, the one-day event is designed for children boxers in Nigeria
to find vent for their talent and pursue their dreams in amateur and possibly
to professional boxing.
A total of eleven bouts were fought in the male and
female categories from 33kg to 57kg.
The participants were drawn from Junior and Senior
Secondary schools in Lagos to enable closers monitoring. Some of the schools
include; Frontview College, Ilogbo Elegba High School and Ilupeju High School
among others.
It was explosive to the extent that Rex Mafiana, an InfoTech
expert had to award scholarship to one of the potential stars, Fawaz Saheed of
Nimotal High School, Ojo,Lagos.
An excited Mafiana said Fawaz who is an SS 1 student
would be sponsored to any level of his choice beginning with an automatic
change of School.
“I was at the last year’s edition of the event and Fawaz
was one of the kids who partook in the boxing competition and his performance
impressed me. So I felt that for a guy who can do that, the way he reasons, I
believe that there is something in him that needs development.
“Today I relieved the joy I had last year when I see the
happiness of those kids and I think if
all of us who can help somebody we will have a better society at large. It is
just to give back and see the happiness on the kid’s face,” Mafiana said.
