COPA LAGOS 2017: Adamu proud of Sand Eagles despite final loss

By Akeem Lawal
HEAD Coach of the national beach soccer team, Audu Adamu has said that he is proud of the Super Sand Eagles,  despite losing 6-5 to Spain beach soccer team in the final of the 2017 Copa Lagos Beach Soccer tournament at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos.

Both teams went into Sunday’s game undefeated after winning their previous two games in this year’s tournament, with Nigeria beating Morocco 7-6 on Friday and Lebanon 9-8 on Saturday, while the Spanish team defeated Lebanon 7-3 and Morocco 8-5.

“I’m very proud of my players, they are great players,” begins Adamu in a chat with NationSport after the game.

“They are playing on grass, while the Spanish national team plays morning and evening on the beach, that is their job. If I can bring players from Ifeanyi Ubah, El Kanemi and other local team to play and face the world, with time we will be competing at the highest level.

“I want to congratulate the Spanish beach soccer team, we lost to a better side. If we get the kind of competitions they get before they come here, it will be better for us. From here they will be going to Portugal by next year and even Arsenal too will be there. So if we can get our league started, it will improve the national team too, because nine to ten days camping is not enough for the team. Brazil used 450 days to prepare and win the World Cup in Bahamas. All we want is long time camping and get the beach soccer league in place as soon as possible,” Adamu told NationSport.
