Rivers Utd goalkeeper Akande Abiodun out for the season

RIVERS United goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande has reportedly been ruled out for the rest of the season after the horror  injury he picked up during the 3-1 victory over Wikki Tourists in a Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 31 fixture in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.


With River United leading 2-0 courtesy of Guy Keumian and Emeka Ogbugh first half strikes,  Akande suffered a leg break while trying to stop Abubakar Lawal's goal for the visitors in the 50th minute. He was replaced by Rotimi Sunday before Chiwendu Ali restored the two-goal lead from the spot to finish the match 3-1.

According to information made available through the team's Twitter handle, Akande who will undergo an orthopaedic surgery, is expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season.

"CONFIRMATION! Akande has suffered a right foot fracture that requires orthopaedic surgery. #WeStandWithAkande.

"Our goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande will not play again this season after suffering a fracture of the right leg today. #WeStandWithAkande," the club confirmed via @RiversUnitedFC.

Rivers United next play Akwa United on Wednesday in a rescheduled game as they continue the march out of relegation waters.
