Basel 3-1 Omonia Nicosia: Uzoho ecstatic with 8 saves

By Akeem Lawal

OMONIA Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho left the pitch with his head high despite the team suffering a 3-1 defeat to Swiss side FC Basel in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the Super Eagles goalkeeper made eight saves during the game to keep the score "respectable" but the Cyprus side are last in the Group H with just one point after three games played.

The 22-year-old expressed his gratitude to the traveling fans for their support to the team on his first appearance this season.

“An honour to represent this great club again and I hope this is the first of many to come. Massive support from fans. In Christ alone,” he posted on his Instagram page.

Jordi Gomez ‘s penalty in the 26th minute had canceled out Liam Millar’s 19th minute opener for the host.

Arthur Cabral however increased the tally in the 41st minute via a penalty before Edon Zhegrova sealed the victor to give Uzoho a baptism of fire on his Conference League debut.

The Nigeria international rejoined the Cypriot giants on a three-year deal after terminating his contract with APOEL.
