NIGERIA international Victor Osimhen showed Napoli fans a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming Italian Serie A season by netting a hat-trick in eight minutes and creating two assists as the club 11-0 victory over L'Aquila in an exhibition game a at the Teofilo Patini Stadium on Friday.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the Partenopei officially began their pre-season preparations with a mini-tournament against local teams Castel di Sangro and L’Aquila which lasted 45 minutes each.
Coach Gennaro Gattuso used a 4-3-3 formation for the opener, a 10-0 victory over Castel di Sangro with Matteo Politano bagging a hat-trick, braces for Arkadiusz Milik and Amin Younes, then goals for Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Gianluca Gaetano and a spectacular Kalidou Koulibaly overhead kick.
Gattuso changed things up for the second match with L’Aquila, which was probably closer to the team we’ll see starting the Serie A season.
It was a 4-2-3-1 system with Hirving Lozano, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne fanning out behind summer signing Osimhen.
The Super Eagles forward opened scoring for the Blues in the 59th seconds by out-running two defenders with his pace before beating the onrushing goalkeeper. He then added another goal two minutes after which received applause and ovation from Azzurri fans at Patini.
Mertens made it 3-0 in the fifth minute before Osimhen completed his hat-trick in the seventh minute with the fourth goal before setting up Lozano for the fifth goal.
Ghoulam increased the goal tally in the 20th minute, while Insigne added another one in the 22nd minute. Osimhen then recorded his second assist of the game by setting up Lozano once again for the eighth goal of the match in the 28th minute.
Lozano then turned assist-man for Insigne, who slips the ninth goal in the area, before Mertens completed the rout with two goals in quick succession to make it 11-0.
