TWO-TIME African champion, Emmanuel Nworie, will lead three others including Ikechukwu Robinson (60kg) and Tochukwu Okeke (87kg), as well as debutant Alfred Pakistan (67kg) in the Greco Roman wrestling event of the Africa Games which holds on Wednesday at the Indoor Sports Center, El Jadida, Morocco.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Nworie will defend his Africa Games title in the Men's Greco-Roman 77 kg in the event that also has Ouakali Abd Elkrim (Algeria), Wina Rubin (DR Congo), Maafi Lamjed (Tunisia), Khalil Mohamed (Egypt) and Ait Ouagram Ziad (Morocco).
African Championships bronze medalist, Ikechukwu Robinson will also slug it out in the Men's Greco-Roman 60 kg category which has Koech Karaya (Kenya), Laouni Abdennour (Algeria), Madjadoum Begui (Chad), Diallo Abou (Mauritania) and Fajari Fouad (Morocco), Ibanda Jonathan (DR Congo), Mahmoud Haythem (Egypt) and Goliath Romio (Namibia).
Nigerian Army wrestler, Tochukwu Okeke will be competing for glory in the Men's Greco-Roman 87 kg and will have Sid Bachir (Algeria), Omondi Odhimbo (Kenya), Missaoui Skander (Tunisia), Saleh Haraina (Chad), Moueniss Reda (Morocco), Manouan Elyse (Cote D'Ivoire), Metwally Mohamed (Egypt) and Bakhet Ali (Sudan) to compete with.
Alfred Pakistan will be hoping to make his debut appearance at the Africa Games a memorable one in the Men's Greco-Roman 67 kg. It will however not be a tea party for the young wrestler when he comes up against the likes of Merabet Abdelmalek (Algeria), Boualem Aziz (Morocco), Bayilaba Norlinm (DR Congo), Elsayed Mohamed (Egypt), Nasr Souleymen (Tunisia) and Munene Wachira (Kenya).
The female wrestling team will take to the mat on Thursday while the men’s freestyle team will battle for glory on Friday.
Nigeria won the wrestling event at the last Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo four years ago, claiming 19 medals comprising nine gold, five silver and five bronze.
