I’m the best, says new UFC champion Kamaru Usman

By Akeem Lawal with agency reports
NIGERIAN-BORN Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter, Kamaru Usman has boasted that he is the best in the sport after beating the defending champion, Tyron Woodley to clinch the UFC Welterweight title last weekend.

Woodley had been the champion since August 2016 and had been on a seven-fight unbeaten streak.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports Usman became the first African UFC champion by beating Woodley across all five rounds to get a winning decision from the judges during the fight that took place in the Octagon at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the United States of America.

He recorded unanimous point decisions of 50-44, 50-44 and 50-45 by the three judges.

Usman, who hails from Auchi in Edo State but resides in Dallas, is popularly called the Nigerian nightmare.

Speaking after the fight, Usman said: “I might not be the best striker, I might not be the best wrestler, but when it comes to mixing it up, there’s no question I’m the best...

"You think I’m going to wrestle and then I strike you. You think I’m going to strike and I grapple you. I confuse them and I break them. This is mixed martial arts for a reason and I’m the best, I’m the champ.”

Carrying his daughter after the fight, Usman told her: “I want you to remember this day forever. Daddy did it."
