African U-18 & U-20 Championships: AFN names 85 athletes

THE athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has released a competitive list of 85 athletes that will represent the country at the African Under-18 and Under-20 Championships billed to hold at the main Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, from April 16 - 20th, 2019,  Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

According to the list, 41 athletes will compete in the Under-18 category, while 44 athletes are expected to battle for honours in the Under-20 category.

The athletes were selected from the top performers at the National youth and junior championships in Ilaro, Ogun State with a bulk of them being the winners from all events.


Familiar names like Enoch Adegoke, Favor Ofili, Alaba Akintola, Roosemary Chukwuma, as expected made the list, while most of the remaining athletes such as Nse Uko, Teniola Fadahunsi, Godson Brume and Adedoyin Fatola will be making their international debuts for the country.


Participants from more than 25 countries, including hosts Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa, will take part in the events.

More than a dozen disciplines will be showcased, including middle- and long-distance races, sprints and field events.
