Issa Gata plays down Messi comparisons

ABUBAKAR Bukola Saraki (ABS FC) versatile player, Adeshina Issa Gata has played down comparisons between himself and Argentine forward, Lionel Messi, saying there is great distance between him and the Barcelona super star, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.


Gata's stunning display in ABS's 2-1 win over Niger Tornadoes in the NPFL match  week 22 where he made the two assists only led to further comparisons to Messi – one of the all-time greats.

After the display, the highly gifted playmaker received praises from all quarters including ABS Director of Football, Alloy Chukwuemeka, who uploaded a picture of the player on his Facebook page and wrote, "The little Messi of the Nigeria Professional Football League Adeshina Issa Gata of ABS ILORIN FC."

The club's Media Officer, Olayinka Owolewa also said of the player, "Adeshina Issa Gata arguably the best young lad in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). He is a delight to watch."

Ace photographer, Abdul Momoh of Sportspro News could not hide his feelings after the encounter, saying: "Soccer fans appreciates ABS Ilorin fc engine room, the new Messi, Adeshina Issa Gata for his brilliant display of soccer artistry in their last game against Niger Tornadoes, NPFL match  week 22."

However, the 18-year-old played down similarities to the Barcelona star, who he said was at another level.

"Nobody can ever be like Messi," begins Gata in a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.

"Messi is a magician and does things that you cannot imagine a player could do.

"To be compared to this great player is an honour . For any player to be compared to him means that such player posses some quality similar to him.

"This kind of talk does not put any pressure on me but gives me inspiration and believe that I can be one of the best in the game of soccer.

"Right now, my focus is to continue to develop my game at ABS and at the same time help my team to at least get a continental ticket at the end of this season" he told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
