Ikorodu Utd victim of bad officiating, says De Jong

By Akeem Lawal
IKORODU United coach, Theodorus Jacob de Jong believes the present position of the team in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) is as a result of unfavourable decision from referees.

The former Dutch international stated this after the Oga Boys were held to a 2-2 draw by Nasarawa United in a week 28 encounter held at the Onikan Stadium last weekend.

Paul Duke broke the deadlock just before the break, while Abdulrahman Bashir restored parity for the visitors a minute into the second half.

The home side went into the lead again on the hour mark through Oluwole Balogun Johnson, but that lead didn’t last too long as the visitors equalised through Samson Gbadebo in the 64th minute to end the match 2-2.

The defeat leaves Ikorodu United rooted at the base on 18 points with two matches to spare and De Jong believes his team deserved more from the encounter.

“I am disappointed at the scoreline because we were on top of our level throughout the game and we deserved the win but I think only some discussable mistakes from the linesmen and the referee made us lose the game,” Jong told SportingLife after the match.

Asked what he feels the League Management Committee should do concerning poor officiating by some of the referees, the Ditch man replied, “I have no idea, this question is for our officials and board members but I have the feeling when I watch all the games that Ikorodu United is not the love story in the LMC.”
