AFRICAN CUP 1C: Black Stallions beat Mauritius 31-21 in opener

NIGERIA national rugby team, Black Stallions began their campaign at the ongoing African Cup 1C with a 31-21 victory over Mauritius at the COC Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco on Wednesday.


The interesting and entertaining game saw Onoh Jato scoring 2 tries while Christian Ogar and Obi Wilson getting 1 try each, with Monday Omoregieva converting all tries and also a penalty to give the Nigerian side the much needed victory.

The Black Stallions will face the host Morocco in the winner takes all encounter on Saturday to determine who gets promoted to 1B.

The Nigerians will however fancy their chances of beating the Moroccans despite the host recording a landslide 68 points to 3 victory over Mauritius in their opening game last Sunday.

This division also doubles as the first qualification phase for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The winner of 2016 Africa Cup Division 1C will win promotion to the 2017 Africa Cup Division 1B, the second phase of the Rugby World Cup qualification process.
