REIGNING UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has warned Colby Covington to expect another thorough beating when both fighters meet again at the UFC 268 on November 6 inside Madison Square Garden, the world’s most famous arena in New York.
Usman defeated Covington by TKO into the closing moments of a five-round slugfest - breaking his jaw in the process at UFC 245 – in 2019. He has since defended the title three more times, while Covington rebounded from that loss with a dominant fifth-round TKO of Tyron Woodley in September of last year.
Usman is undefeated in the UFC and has a record of 19-1 overall with his only loss coming in his second ever fight.
Ahead of the welterweight title rematch, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is trolling his rival ‘The Chaos’ on the social media. He uploaded a picture from his training session on his verified Instagram and Facebook page with the caption in a local parlance, “I wan beat person pikin again”, which means “I want to beat someone’s child again”.
This statement has shown that Usman has overcome his prematch fears he always had before his fights.
The 34-year-old told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com during his visit to Nigeria in June that he always exhibit fears ahead of his fight, regardless his opponent.
“First is fear. We are human beings. A physical fight is always frightening, it’s always fearful but that is part of life. It’s being courageous, it’s being able to work forward and solve whatever problem in front of you. Just like life, in each and everyday we all battle with different things. Whether it’s from job, whether it’s from the struggles but we still have to find a way to survive each and every day. That is what I put my mind to,” Usman told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
