SUPER Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye is hoping not to concede any goal when Nigerian take on Cape Verde in the second match of the 2022 World Cup second round qualifier on Tuesday.
The Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper recorded his third clean sheet for Nigeria in a 2-0 victory over Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium last Friday.
“Great way to start our World Cup qualifier with 3 points & a clean sheet! In front of our people 🇳🇬🦅 #WorldCup2022”, he posted on his Instagram account on Monday in readiness for Tuesday’s encounter.
Since his debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Brazil in 2019, the 22-year-old has kept three clean sheets and conceded seven goals in nine games played. The highest being a 4-4 draw recorded against Sierra Leone in Group L of the African Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City in November last year.
Two first-half goals by Kelechi Iheanacho against the Lone Stars of Liberia last Friday, saw the Super Eagles soaring to the top of their qualifying group that also includes the Central Africa Republic and a win over Cape Verde at the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena on Tuesday will keep the Gernot Rohr side in control of the group.
Nigeria is seeking a seventh appearance at the World Cup having featured in all but one of the editions since making a debut appearance at the 1994 edition in the United States.
