Plateau Utd drop seven, target six new players

NIGERIA Professional Football League side Plateau United are set to strengthen the team with six new players after dropping seven ahead of the 2020/2021 season, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

The former NPFL champions have set a CAF Champions League group stage target and are working hard to ensure they surpassed the second round stage of the competition which they did two years ago.

A reliable source in the team who prefers not to be mentioned informed Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com that the management and the technical crew are working on the same page in this regard.

The source explained that the synergy has seen the team recently signed eight new players to fortify the team ahead of the new Nigeria Professional Football League season and the CAF Champions League.

Top among those signed are Abdulrahman Bashir and Wasiu Jimoh who are joining the 2017 champions from Enyimba International of Aba and Sunshine Stars of Akure.

The two players and the remaining six are expected to strengthen the team which also dropped seven players at the end of the 2019/2020 season.

“Most of the seven players dropped are on account of lack of playing time which cannot be guaranteed under this dispensation as most of them failed to break into the team last season.

"As a mark of appreciation for the services rendered to the club, management of the team decided not to make their names public in order not to jeopardize their chances of securing clubs elsewhere.

“On preparations for the CAF Champions League which the team is representing Nigeria after emerging tops following the suspension of the NPFL due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Plateau State is fully supporting the team to ensure a successful campaign.

“One of the things the government is doing is it's plans to refurbish the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos as venue for the CAF Champions League in order to ensure fans cheer the team to victory unlike two years ago, when the team was forced to play outside Jos after CAF rejected the New Jos stadium which is uncompleted,” the source said.
