Nigeria international, Paul Onuachu has tested positive
for the novel coronavirus, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
The 26-year-old returned to his Belgian First Division A
side Genk on June 27th after spending a month in Nigeria following the outbreak
of coronavirus which forced football activities into a hiatus.
He then joined the rest of the squad in training ahead of
their pre-season games in preparation for the 2020-21 campaign.
According to Le Soir.be, the entire Genk squad including
the Nigerian trio of Onuachu, Stephen Odey and Cyril Dessers were tested for
the CoronaVirus in preparations for their first preseason game against
Eendracht Termien and they all tested negative except Onuachu.
The Nigerian striker will now go into isolation for a
week after testing positive for the COVID-19.
Even though the exhibition game will go ahead, there is
quite a bit of concern within the Genk players as they have been training
intensively with Onuachu for more than a week now.
“In the run-up to the first exhibition game of the
season, the entire Genk group was tested yesterday. Everyone tested negative
except Onuachu. Onuachu returned from Nigeria with a delay because airspace
over Nigeria remained closed for a long time,” the report said.
Onuachu joined the Blue-White last summer from Danish
side Midtjylland and has become a key component of Hannes Wolf’s team.
The Nigeria international scored 10 goals and provided
two assists in the recently ended 2019-20 campaign, helping his side to finish
seventh.
