Ancelotti confirms Iwobi’s injury

By Akeem Lawal
EVERTON Manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi suffered a hamstring problem during the team’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the Super Eagles player lasted only 45 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before being replaced at half-time by Anthony Gordon and Ancelotti revealed that he took the decision after the Nigerian picked up a hamstring problem.

“I wanted to use some fresh legs for the game,” Ancelotti told Sky Sports, when asked about his substitutions.

“Iwobi had a little problem on his hamstring so I took him out and after that I put on fresh players for the end of the game.”

The Blues lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho's side with the game decided by a Michael Keane own goal mid-way through the first-half and Ancelotti says his side’s undoing was because they lost the midfield battle.

Following Mason Holgate's injury in the 36th minute, the Italian manager changed formation for the game and deployed an extra man in midfield with Andre Gomes selected alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies.

"I think we lost the game in the fight that was in the middle of the park," Ancelotti said.
"I think there we lost a lot of second balls and we were not in total control of the game.  It is true that we competed until the end but we didn't create a lot of opportunities and didn't have a lot of chances.

"In the second-half the possession was better and we had more opportunities to find players between the lines but we didn't have a lot of chances.  We competed but it wasn't enough."
