Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi has admitted that he
was delighted to return to the Everton starting line-up for last weekend's win
over Watford.
The Blues left Vicarage Road with a dramatic 3-2 win
after coming from two goals down thanks to a first half brace from Yerry Mina
and a 90th-minute Theo Walcott strike.
Carlo Ancelotti made the decision to introduce Super
Eagles forward straight back into the side for the first time since picking up
an injury in the 0-0 draw against Arsenal in the Italian’s first game in charge
at Goodison Park just before Christmas.
The former Arsenal forward is now eager to impress
Ancelotti after putting up a five-star performance against the new manager.
"There is no better feeling than coming back and
winning and it was the perfect day for me,” Iwobi told evertontv.
"I did not expect to come straight back in, the
manager had us guessing with the set pieces we did on Friday, so we did not
know [who was playing].
"But we were all ready to start. Whenever it was my
time, I knew I would be ready. At times my reactions were a bit slow but that
will come the more I am playing. I felt okay, not leggy at all.
"I always pushed on [during his recovery]. Even when
I was told to relax – I tried to show I was able to get back fit.
"I was eager to be back, especially with a new
manager, I was itching to show him what I could do."
"I guess [it was hard to be denied the chance to
perform in Ancelotti’s initial games], but you get that opportunity to show
your ability in training.
"When I got fit, I thought I would have to impress
and show what I could do and I felt I managed to do that."
