Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor suffered another heartbreak after she was disqualified from the Women’s 200m race at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar despite finishing in 4th position.

Running from lane 9, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist finished 4th in her heat 5 in 22.72s but was disqualified for leaving her lane on the bend.

Okagbare was allowed to feature in the heat following a successful appeal by the Nigeria Athletics Federation. Because of a mix-up by their nation’s track federation, Okagbare and teammate Divine Oduduru were each disqualified after they didn’t show up for the 100-meter races that they never intended to run.

Recalled that the former African queen of the track suffered the same fate at the 2019 African Games in Morocco, where she was disqualified in the semi-final of the Women’s 100m for a false start.

Niger’s Aminatou Seyni however won the heat with a time of 22.58s, while Germany’s Tatjana Pinto (22.63s) and Gambia’s Gina Bass (22.67) finished in second and third to qualify for the next round.

Meanwhile, Divine Oduduru failed to make it to the final of the Men’s 200m after finishing eighth with a time of 20.84s in the semifnal 200m Heat 3.

Andre De Grasse of Canada finished placed first in the heat with a qualification time of 20.08s, while Kyle Greaux of Trinidad & Tobago joined him in the final with a time of 20.24s.
