.Oduduru, Okagbare withdraws from 100m

2019 African Games gold medalist, Raymond Ekevwo has qualified for the semi-final of the men’s 100m at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
Ekevwo who became the Africa’s fastest man with a personal best of 9.96secs in Morocco, lived up to expectations clocking 10.14s to finish 2nd in his Heat 3 and qualify for Sunday’s semi-final at the renovated multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium.
Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain won the race in 10.08s, while Liberia’s Emmanuel Matadi finished 3rd place in 10.19s.
However, the other Nigerian in the race, Usheoritse Itsekiri, finished in a disappointing 7th position in Heat 2 that featured Justin Gatlin of USA, who won in 10.06s, Canada’s Andre De Grasse (10.13s) and Great Britain’s Adam Gemili (10.19s).
Also, Riwan Alowonle made it to the semifinal of the men’s 400mH. Alowonle placed fourth Heat 3 with a time of 50.04s to qualify for the next round.
NCAA champion Divine Oduduru of Nigeria was a surprise withdrawal from his heat 5 of the men’s 100m but still has a Did Not Start (DNS) registered on his name. SportingLife gathered that the 22-year-old chose to focus on the 200m instead because of the dry/hot weather conditions in Doha
Africa’s queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare has also pulled out of the 100m and will now focus on the 200m and 4x100m.
