Super Eagles dedicate victory over Iceland to Nigerian fans

THE Super Eagles of Nigeria have dedicated their 2-0 victory over Iceland at the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia to Nigerians, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.


Two goals from Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa was the revival tonic for the Nigerian side to keep their journey at the World Cup alive at the Novgorod Stadium on Friday evening.

Few moments after the victory, some of the players took to the social media to thank teeming football fans in Nigeria for standing solidly behind the team despite losing their first game to Croatia.


Captain Mikel John Obi lead the pack by thanking the Super Eagles fans for ensuring the team recorded their first win of the tournament.

“Thank you to all the @NGSuperEagles fans! You carried us through to victory πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ On to the next one! #SoarSuperEagles #NIGISL,” the Tianjin TEDA of China captain said via‏ @mikel_john_obi.


Leicester City’s combative midfielder, Ndidi Wilfred also posted via @Ndidi25, “This is for the 180 million Nigerians πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ™πŸ» #FIFAWorldCup2018Russia.”

The Eagles have thus climbed to second place in Group D, with three points, while Argentina and Iceland lag behind with one point each. Croatia have taken the first ticket from the group into the knockout rounds, following their comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Argentina and earlier 2-0 win over Nigeria.


Nigeria and Argentina will clash in a potentially explosive encounter in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday night, while Iceland and Croatia square up on the same day.
