NIGERIA'S 2-0 defeat
of Iceland on Friday evening at the on-going 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has
set the team in good stead for the task of facing Argentina in the last Group D game, says Super Eagles two-goal hero, Ahmed Musa.
Musa, who came alive
in the second half and played superbly, scoring both goals in the 49th and 75th
minutes to give Nigeria a ray of hope to reach the knock out phase after
advancing from bottom to second position on the log.
Musa not only
scored a double in a crucial group-stage game but also became the first
Nigerian in history to score at two FIFA World Cups.
The Leicester City forward,
who was voted Man of the Match in the encounter called on Nigerians not to celebrate too much,
but wait until the final against the Argentines.
“For me, I think we
have to celebrate a little bit. At the end of our final game against Argentina,
if we win, then we will celebrate. Today we feel very happy that we won,” the
25 year old said after being presented with the MOTM award.
The final group match
comes up on Tuesday against last edition finalist, Argentina, and a draw should
Iceland fail to beat group leader, Croatia, will see Nigeria through to the
knockout phase of the competition.
Musa however believes
anything can happen in the game but, called on his teammates to stay focused throughout
the encounter.
“We have to take it as it comes. Finally today
we have the three points, so we have to focus till the end of the 90 minutes in
our game against Argentina, we’ll see either a draw or win, nothing is
impossible in football, “he said.
